Is your Present Home Becoming a Burden? What’s Next?

In the family home, each room has a story to tell and memories seep from every nook and cranny, it is the centre of gravity. What happens when the maintenance and care of that home becomes a burden. If aging in place is not an option for you and you decide to relocate to find a more suitable living arrangement, the following is an overview of other housing options you might want to explore;
Is it downsizing and finding a smaller home that still offers you independent living? Then a condo, townhouse or a single-family home that is smaller and requires less maintenance is a good option especially if you are healthy and active.
If finding a community of your peers seems a better fit then an Active Adult Community aims to service the interests of active adults over the age of 55. Housing types often include condos, townhouses and single-family properties, and all are designed to deliver a maintenance-free lifestyle for residents. Most communities offer an array of on-site activities, including exercise, social activities, and interest-based events.
Do you need help with some day-to-day activities or want someone to do the chores and free up your time so you can do the things you like to do? Assisted Living Communities or retirement homes allow for older adults to live in their own apartments, but have the benefit of an on-site staff, meal service in communal dining spaces, cleaning and laundry services; planned activities, and outings. Some assisted living communities also offer access to nurses and daily living assistance. Others may offer more extensive medical and personal services.
Depending on your health and mobility a better option may be a Continuing Care Retirement Living Community or Long-Term Care Home which offers a progressive level of assistance, depending on your needs. They include independent and assisted living and nursing care.
